Owners

Imperial Sporbikes is a family run motorcycle business with its operation in Denver, CO, but the owners are spread from Denver to Rochester, MN. Nearly every Wednesday night the four brothers (Gary, Mike, Tim, & Chris) meet online to go over taxes, payroll, major events, and long term strategy.

Once a quarter we fly Gary from Souix Falls, SD and Mike from Rochester, MN out to Denver for a long weekend to help implement new strategies, software, and policies. These weekends are usually caffeine fueled sessions that start early and run until the wee hours of the morning, only to start all over again the next day. Admittedly, despite the sleep-deprived delirium these weekends are usually very productive, and some of our best ideas are created and implemented during these times.

Tim Meiners

Tim Meiners

Tim is the second youngest of the brothers, and graduated Iowa State University ('01) with a degree in Transportation Logistics. Tim started Imperial Sportbikes out of his garage in 2006 to provide his fellow riders a cheaper alternative for parts than buying new from the dealer.

He gained his love for motorcycles at the age of 10, when the family acquired a rusted (non-running) 1979 Honda CB125 for $50. Gary, Mike, and Tim got the bike running quickly, and just as quickly, instilled a passion for motorcycles in Tim. He bought his own bike a few years later at the age of sixteen. It was a 1989 Kawasaki EX500. He has since owned many bikes from a variety of years and manufacturers, but will always remember those first two.

Tim likes to spend his Summer weekends street riding his BMW K1200S or road racing his 749R. All his other limited free time is spent with his wife Nicole, and his son Jaxon. He may also sneak in a camping trip here and there.

Gary Meiners

Gary Meiners

Gary is the oldest of the brothers, second out of 9 kids, and was the first to graduate from Iowa State University. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. Gary started with IPS, now MidAmerican Energy, straight out of college, and has been with them ever since. He is currently located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He has been with Imperial since the beginning, and has actively helped design some of the most important systems that are used today. Gary helped convince everyone at the company to implement an item level RFID tagging system. It required a lot of work, but continues to be a fundamental piece of our daily operation, and contributes greatly to our efficiency and accuracy.

Between his primary job and helping at Imperial, Gary has very little free time, but what little time he does have is spent with his daughter Ashley. He is proud of that fact that he has successfully convinced her to attend Iowa State in the fall.

Mike Meiners

Mike Meiners

Mike is the second oldest brother, and another graduate of Iowa State University. He received both his Bachelors and Masters in Computer Engineering, although he began training as a mechanical engineer when he was a small child. Growing up he would sneak out of his room to type BASIC programs into Gary's Tandy TRS-80 connected to a large old CRT TV and save them on cassette tapes.

Mike worked on Java projects for the AS400 / iSeries at IBM in Rochester, Minnesota straight out of college for six year. Mike has stayed in Rochester, but now works on Java applications for Mayo Clinic. About the time that Mike started at Mayo, Imperial was founded. He began programming Java applications and providing technical assistance for the company. Mike has made many applications that are used every day and are vital to the company's continued success.

When we don't have him stuck behind his monitors making programs, Mike likes to travel and spend time with his wife (Laura) and son (Alex). Mike and Laura decided that they had too much free time, and are expecting a second child in the very near future! Congrats!

Chris Meiners

Chris Meiners

Chris is the youngest of the four brothers, youngest (ninth) of the Meiners' family, and the last to join the company ('09). He also graduated Iowa State University ('07) with a degree in Management Information Systems, after studying abroad for his final semester in Newcastle, Australia. When he got back to the states, he quickly realized that Iowa was not the place for him. In October of the same year, he went to live with Tim in Denver. It wasn't until March of 2009 that Chris bought into the company and became a part owner, mostly handling any IT problem that arose.

After working for Allstate insurance as a computer programmer for nearly 3 years, the shop was growing and needed another employee. Chris started working full-time for Imperial in October 2010. He continued to provide IT solutions but now also became Tim's backup for nearly every day-to-day activity.

Chris likes to spend his free time travelling with his lovely girlfriend Krissy, and fixing up his house. He is still a computer nerd at heart, although the free time to satiate that indulgence has waned. You can probably get him to volunteer for about anything if there is a good craft brew in it for him!
